Important Drumstick Characteristics

TIP DESIGN
Critical to the overall sound that the stick will produce.

TIP SHAPE & SONORITY
Tear Drop - dark tones
Olive - full, punchy
Acorn - fat sound
Oval - broad mid-range
Ellipse - focused attack
Ball - clean, bright

SHOULDER PLACEMENT
Crucial in determining the weight distribution and rebound action of the sticks.

TAPER
Influences the behavior and response of the stick. A long taper provides more flex and a quicker response while a short taper is stiffer and stronger.

LENGTH
Affects the overall balance of the stick. Longer sticks provide greater reach and power while shorter sticks are quicker and easier to control.

THICKNESS
Determines the stick's strength and projection. Thicker sticks are louder and more durable, while thinner sticks play faster and are more sensitive.
